Bentgrass (CSU)
New Green Construction

The effect of nutrient loaded ZeoponiX root zone materials on the establishment rate of bentgrass in sand- based media was evaluated at Colorado State University.  The test consisted of 16 treatments in a randomized complete block design with three replications.  The materials tested included a control (no zeoponic material added, USGA graded sand with 10% peat) and ZeoponiX  products tested with additions of 5%, 10% and 20% by volume to the USGA blend.  ZeoponiX material was mixed uniformly in the entire 12 inch root zone.  The plots were seeded July 21, 1996 with "Cato" creeping bentgrass at a rate of one pound of seed per 1000 square feet.  Plots were fertilized at a "normal" rate (1.0 lbs N/1000 ft2 initially then 0.25 lbs N/wk/1000 ft2, plus other primary nutrients and micro nutrients) or at ½ x or 2x normal.  Turf establishment was measured weekly for the first 9 weeks (scale of 0 -9).
The graph below shows the mean establishment ratings for one of the ZeoponiX products at the three different amendment rates compared to the control.  The data clearly demonstrate the significant benefits associated with using ZeoponiX  materials on accelerating turf emergence rate.  The pictures show one of the test plots for the control and the different amendment rates for the nutrient loaded ZeoponiX
