Plots were aerified on June 4, 1997 with ½ inch tines to a depth of 1.25" -1.5". The plugs were removed and the plots were topdressed and swept in with the appropriate material. ZeoponiX materials
were evaluated at rates of 100%, 66.6% and 33.3%. The control and the material mixed with the ZeoponiX materials was a USGA graded sand. Light topdressing occurred every three weeks during the summer. A fall
aerification and heavy topdressing was conducted on September 26, 1997. Plots were fertilized in March, 1997 and July, 1997 with 1# N/1000 sq ft . Plots also received weed control in early September.
Hole recovery rates were faster on plots treated with ZeoponiX treatments. Clipping yields and quality ratings were also higher on those plots topdressed with ZeoponiX materials. In this study,
quality results generally paralleled clipping yield, suggesting a correlation between quality and turfgrass growth. In the graph to the right the cumulative clipping yield is shown for control A which
received sand topdressing only, Sand/ZeoPro which was aerified and topdressed with sand in the spring and topdressed with ZeoPro the rest of the summer, ZeoPro , and for a zeoponic material under development by ZeoponiZ, but not
yet commercially available. |
