Geranium (Flo 3.3) -  4" Pot Production

Better plants produced in ZeoponiX materials with less fertilization

Picture

Greenhouse bedding plant grow out of the Pinto Red variety geranium was  conducted in 4 inch (10cm) diameter pots to compare the effects of various ZeoponiX medium formulations, supplemental soluble fertilizer rates and ZeoponiX amendment rates.
Studies were replicated complete randomized block experiments involving nine (9) treatments:   four (4) different proprietary zeoponic formulations (NPK and minor nutrients) and controls.    ZeoponiX formulations were incorporated at a standard volumetric rate with a peat:perlite  blend.   Soluble fertilizer was fed at 50%(0.5x), full (1.0 x) and 150%(1.5x) weekly with 20-10-20; 200 ml of 200 ppm N being full (1.0 x) fertility. Some ZeoponiX treatments received no fertilization.

Geranium starter plugs were transplanted into 4" pots containing 0.5 liter of media in early November 1996 and placed in the greenhouse.  At 8 weeks after transplanting data were collected on plant measurements and quality ratings.
This experiment demonstrated that ZeoponiX media can be used to produce high quality bedding plants using little or no supplemental fertilization.

Normal fertilization rates can be reduced approximately 50% to achieve equal or better quality geraniums.
