Impatiens (Flo 1.1)  -  Starter plug establishment

     Based upon replicated complete randomized block experiments, the effects of blending ZeoponiX mediums into standard peat:perlite potting mixes was evaluated.  Ten ZeoponiX formulations and two controls were involved.  The  Impatiens (I. walleriana) hybrid, Super Elfin Series Rose was the test variety. 
   Statistically significant improvements (see graph)  in starter plug performance (e.g.plug mass, vegetative color, and leaf size) and overall consumer appeal were observed in selected ZeoponiX treatments which received no supplemental fertilizer compared to unamended peat:perlite controls, either with or without fertilizer.   The fertilized control  routinely  received a soluble 20- 20-20 Fertilizer plus micronutients.  ZeoponiX media amendment rates were 10% by volume.
     Specific ZeoponiX starter formulations can be selected to ensure grower control over the timing of the growth by use of either nutrients or plant growth regulators.
